Data methodology

A transparent guide to the Australian pub directory and its reported prices.

The source snapshot

This directory combines imported public venue records with 1,914 public PINTR catalogue entries across eight states and territories. The import date is 15 October 2026. There are 7,726 combined venue records and 34,701 reported price observations after matching and merging duplicates.

We imported public factual fields: venue names, addresses, coordinates, contact links, listed food and drink prices, serving labels, source check dates, happy-hour schedules and daily specials. PINTR’s public opening hours, features and descriptions are included where available. Images, individual reviews and private account information are not part of this directory.

One venue, multiple sources

Records are matched using shared source venue IDs, or a consistent name and locality with nearby coordinates. Ambiguous matches are kept separate. The combined records preserve different reported prices and source links. Exact duplicate observations from the same source and check date are collapsed. Observations from different sources remain separately attributed.

What a quote means

Prices are reported observations in Australian dollars. The import date does not make a price current. Individual source check dates appear in the raw price table. “Date not recorded” means the source did not provide an exact observation date. A listed price can be out of date, and an offer can have restrictions.

Comparing like for like

Select an item and a serving before comparing. Beer prices retain their source size labels: pint, schooner, pot, bottle, jug or a named custom serving. We do not guess volumes or convert prices between sizes. In South Australia and elsewhere, serving terminology can differ. Check the venue’s menu.

Regular prices and scheduled drink offers are separate markets. Daily food specials remain in the downloadable dataset and applicable food comparisons. For a selected item and size, the newest dated observation per venue is used. If check dates match, the lower listed quote is shown. An undated record is kept available but does not override a dated record. When “all” items or servings are selected, the terminal shows the lowest matching listed quote at each pub; this mixes items and should be interpreted as a browsing aid.

Beer names and filters

Named beers use reviewed aliases to combine spelling, packaging and menu-description variants. Different products and strengths stay separate. Generic tap-beer deals, unnamed house beers and drinks incorrectly classified as beer are omitted from the beer selector and named-beer comparisons; their original observations remain in the downloadable dataset. Location menus show every applicable area and can be scrolled or searched.

The index and charts

A median is the middle quoted price across matching venues; each venue contributes once. The state ticker reports the mean regular Guinness pint price. The histogram shows the distribution of listed prices across pubs. There is no synthetic historical chart.

A green arrow means the venue’s quote is at or below the matching median; red means it is above. Percentage = (quote ÷ median − 1) × 100. It is a cross-sectional comparison, not a change over time. Monthly comparisons on venue records are imported observations and remain separate from the median comparison.

Updates and corrections

This is a published snapshot, not a live feed. Check the venue website or a linked PINTR record for the latest information. Contact the venue directly to confirm a price or offer. Future imports can refresh the directory.

Data use

Free browsing does not imply an open-data licence. See the dataset licence and source-rights notice before reusing source material.

Machine-readable data

State, suburb and item pages include crawlable price summaries, source dates and venue records. Matched venues link directly to their PINTR venue page; unmatched venues have no outgoing venue link. AUS PUBS does not host individual venue pages. See the sitemap, LLM guide and JSON dataset. These make the records easier to retrieve; search rankings and AI citations depend on the search service.
